Crimson Desert is set to expand its world in a major way this fall, as Pearl Abyss has announced a substantial new DLC adventure that will introduce new gameplay systems, environments, bosses and story content.
Revealed during the latest PlayStation State of Play, Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown is scheduled to launch on October 15, 2026. The expansion will continue the events of the main game and take players beyond the conclusion of its original story.
One of the biggest additions will be underwater exploration. The reveal footage offered a glimpse at Kliff venturing beneath the surface of rivers, with a shark apparently serving as a means of transportation through the underwater areas. The expansion will therefore open up parts of Pywel that players couldn’t previously explore in this way.
The new DLC is also introducing city-building mechanics, giving players another way to interact with and shape the world. A new ship will likewise allow players to take to the water and captain their own vessel, suggesting that exploration will play a much larger role in the expansion.
Alongside these new systems, Pearl Abyss teased several imposing new bosses during the announcement. While the footage provided a look at some of the threats awaiting players, the developer has yet to reveal many details about the expansion’s overarching story.
The narrative will pick up after the events of the base game, following Kliff, Oongka and Damiane as they embark on another journey across Pywel.
“The story of Pywel continues in Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown as Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane set out to discover their purpose and shape their futures,” reads the official press release.
“However, as turmoil unfolds around them, each must fight to forge a path through the trials ahead. Join them on a new adventure and discover what new possibilities await across Pywel.”
With the expansion taking place after the main story, players who haven’t completed Crimson Desert may want to finish the campaign before jumping into Charting the Unknown. The new adventure appears designed as a direct continuation rather than a separate side story.
Pre-orders for the expansion are already available and come with an exclusive set of diving gear that players can use in-game.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will arrive on October 15, 2026, bringing a sizeable new chapter to Pearl Abyss’ open-world action RPG. Between underwater exploration, naval travel, city building and new bosses, the expansion looks set to significantly broaden what players can do in Pywel.
