Ubisoft Seemingly Confirms ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Protagonists Yasuke And Naoe Are LGBTQ+

In a blog post published on May 15th, Assassin’s Creed Shadows developer Ubisoft appeared to confirm that the game’s two main protagonists, Yasuke and Naeo, are LGBTQ+ characters.

The company stated: “Naoe and Yasuke’s disparate personalities also lead them to have different relationships and rapports with other characters, and they don’t always feel the same way about people, nor do people always feel the same way about them.”

Next, they talked about the available romance options:  “Romantically, they will also attract and be attracted to different types of people. Through the pair, players will get to experience a multitude of relationships.”

Of course, this isn’t the first Assassin’s Creed game to let players choose their romantic relationships. In earlier titles like Odyssey and Valhalla, protagonists such as Kassandra and Eivor can be portrayed as bisexual, straight, or gay based on the player’s decisions.

This game is the fourteenth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, succeeding 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and marks the first title to be included in the Assassin’s Creed: Infinity platform.

Shadows is scheduled for release on November 15, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and macOS.
